Marriage Still Matters

Marriage Still Matters

Matthew 19:1-6 (King James Version)

1 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;

2 And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.

3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

About

Eric and Francis Vaughn

1994

2023

Eric Vaughn and Francis Silket were married October 8, 1994, at King’s Temple Church in Clarksdale, MS. Eric and Francis first met in the summer of 1985 at the Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. It was that summer when they first became boyfriend and girlfriend. Even though they did not stay together initially as a young couple, they found themselves back together in the summer of 1994. After a brief rekindled courtship, they got married.

With just a little counseling, they embarked upon this thing called marriage. One of the first things that Eric told Francis was “DIVORCE IS NOT AN OPTION”. Their late pastor, Daniel Byrd, also shared with them something that proved invaluable to them, which was to always “Watch your Words”. He advised them to never say anything they would regret later, because once words are released into the atmosphere, they cannot be taken back. The Vaughns have lived by this primary motto and have refused to speak negative words to or about each other.

The Vaughn family consists of five beautiful children: Jerald (31), Feryn (31), Mary (27), Eliana (17), and Eric Jr. (15). In 2016, they welcomed another son when Feryn married James “Bud” Atkinson, Jr. Then, in 2022, Feryn and James blessed them with a precious grandson, James “Trey” Atkinson III.

Although they have had their ups and downs, highs and lows, the Vaughns have been dedicated to not only surviving, but thriving in this thing called marriage. As a matter of fact, after knowing each other for over 38 years and being married for the last 29 years, the Vaughns are proving that Marriage Still Matters!
